Facebook has murdered Instagram. I follow 700 people (mostly artists) but I keep seeing the same ones over and over. And those are sandwiched in between a flood of sponsored and suggested posts.
What that should tell you is no one is going to see your stuff either.
One of my followers responded to a story (people still see those apparently) where I mentioned this and they told me a friend of theirs was trying to unfollow people. Instagram disabled their ability to unfollow to “protect the community.”
Everything is past the point of diminishing returns these days.
If you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter over on the right hand menu, that’s the best way to keep up with my work these days.
What’s your experience been?

Same here. Not only do I see the same accounts over and over, I see the same posts over and over. I rarely just scroll anymore. I don’t use the app or website on mobile, and I block the ads on the desktop, so that’s not as big of a problem.
Jake Parker posted a video a little while back talking about this problem, and how he’s dealing with it. He also mentioned that he unfollowed everyone, then made a list of links to individual profiles that he checks every couple of weeks.
He also mentions the “community protection” thing. In his experience, the block on unfollowing to “protect the community” gets triggered if you unfollow more than 200 people in one day. It lasts 24 hours, then you can unfollow 200 more.
