Your New Year resolutions, if you were foolish enough to make them, have probably taken a beating.
I don’t make resolutions, but I do make goals. I don’t always meet them, and sometimes they shift as circumstances and opportunities change, but they give me a trajectory.
It’s okay that this first month didn’t shape up the way that I expected. I’ve been in quarantine twice, had Covid for the second time, and had consecutive weekends of icy, snowy weather that have changed plans.
So what do I do now that the last day of January is upon me and I haven’t gotten done nearly what I wanted?
I take a look at the compass, readjust my trajectory, and keep moving. That’s all you can do. That all anyone can do. That’s all that anyone who’s ever attempted anything has ever done.
During WWII Winston Churchill signed his letters “K.B.O.”. Keep Buggering On. Because that’s how it feels in the day to day grind of life.
It’s the trajectory that matters. So check the compass, and keep on moving.
