I’ve been on Instagram for almost 10 years. During that time I’ve struggled to get any amount of traction on there. Out of all the social media platforms, you’d think it would be easier for a pro artists to gain some momentum on it.

But after 10 years or so, 4000+ posts, I only have 5000 followers. That might seem like a lot, but given how many people other artists similar to me have reached, it shows I’ve been doing something seriously wrong.

I think part of the problem is, like with my YouTube account, that I just throw stuff up there. And what both people and algorithms want is some form of order. The images to have some sense of unity or groupings. At least that’s what I’ve been told by people far more successful at it than I am.

So as an experiment, I’ve created a 2nd account @brianshearer_art where I’m organizing my work based on visual themes. I need to work smarter.
