I drew King Hippo from Punch-Out without meaning to.
Usually when I draw things like this I’m winding down and just start with an overall shape. Then I see where things go. Last night was a night for drawing guys who look like they’re ready to fight. I guess that’s what happens after going to the gym/sparring three days in a row.
On an unrelated note Twitter has formed, as you know, the Trust and Safety Council. Who doesn’t love trust and safety? Oh, did you know that one of the boxes you can check for reporting people is “disagreement with my opinion”? There’s a term for a place where your opinion just gets echoed down the chamber. If only I could remember what it is.
Lots of buzz has been going around about people like Adam Baldwin and other conservatives who have been banned/or left willingly. And should your political leanings fall to the left maybe you’re glad. But if you are, you’re missing the point. Right or left, you need to refine your opinions…sometimes through the fire of disagreement. Otherwise you get soft and stupid and dogmatic and shrill and whiny and then there’s the heat death of the universe of ideas.
But for me, there’s the more rubber-meets-the-road issue and it’s that things like this underscore the fact that all social media is rented property for your ideas. I don’t own that place, and yet I keep focusing most of my energies there when it comes to (and I really hate this term) content.
So I’m going to focus my creative energies when it comes to cultivating an online presence here first. I’m still on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc…but that’s not my main focus. I’d like to build something here worthwhile instead of throwing my efforts to the ephemeral wind….wind that I don’t own and don’t even pay rent on. So I really can’t complain when the repo man comes a-knockin’.
That’s all for now. I’ve got comics to make.
