Let’s just be honest. Power Girl has a ridiculous costume.
She is the epitome of unrealistic feminine proportions in comics. The legend is that the original artist, Wally Wood, started to feel that his editors weren’t paying attention to what he was drawing. So over the course of 7 or 8 issues he gradually increased the bust size to ridiculous proportions.
The infamous “boob window” from what I can tell is just a gratuitous element added a little later that some writers have tried to explain (lamely) after the fact. (i.e. she couldn’t think of a symbol, so until she does she leaves it blank.)
I’ve been told I never draw her breasts large enough. As comics go, I lean toward more realistic proportions. Whenever I think I’m exaggerating it’s still, by comparasion, very conservative. And then there’s the whole hyper-sexualization of women in comics, which does bother me.
That might also explain why I don’t get quite as many commission requests as other guys. So be it.
At any rate, this above sketch will be for sale at NYCC next month. I’m putting together a book of 9×12 marker sketches to sell like the one above.
